There are a variety of errors that can occur in Windows which can hamper damage your work. One of these errors is a blue screen error, which is also known as the Black Screen Error or Stop Error or Blue Screen of Death (BSOD). These types of error occur if a serious problem is caused in Windows which shuts it down or restart unexpectedly. These errors never state what is wrong in the system and random things happen unexpectedly. There are flash messages like: “Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.”
Illustration wise description of Blue Screen error:
Image of Blue Screen: If you are facing an error and don’t know what is that error then following is the image of Blue screen error. If you face this message on your screen then read on below to know how to fix it.
Actual error code: In the blue error screen the following encircled code is the actual error code which tells us where and what exactly is the problem that causes the blue screen error.
Hardware or software related problem: The second encircled code thing tells us if a the new software uploaded or if the problem is related to hardware.
Stop code: The stop code is mentioned under the technical information which states that the functioning of the windows is stopped and the codes next to stop code tells about what happened in the memory. Following picture depicts the stop code and codes for the problem in the memory.
Physical damage to the memory: The physical damage to the memory can only be read in the codes under the beginning dump of the memory. This tells the problem in the c drive and needs to be corrected immediately.
Steps to be followed to check the C drive.
Go to start – My computer – C drive – Windows – Minidump folder – if there is an error, the windows will not allow to open this file. So, to open the minidump, you need to download the bluescreenview software. Once it is installed then open the zip file and open the exe file.
Once you open the Bluescreenview.exe it should open a Mindump folder . These folders give a description of the error and the location, whether it’s in hardware or software. If you are not sure about the location then you can restart the computer in safe mode and if the blue screen problem still exists then it’s a Hardware problem. If it’s a hardware problem then you need to buy a new hardware and if it’s a software problem then you need to update or reinstall the driver.
Some Reasons and their Easy Solutions for Blue Screen Error:
These errors can be caused by both hardware and software issues or overheating, and it can be difficult to troubleshoot the problem. Major reasons are :
- New software or drivers installation: The most common reason for the Blue Screen is a recent change in the computer’s settings or hardware. This is often related to new drivers getting installed or updated.
Solution: If you have a restore point, try to load it and it might help.
- Problem in the internal hardware of the computer: Loose cables, sockets can also be a reason for Blue Screen.
Solution: Open your case and check to make sure that all the cables are firmly connected and that any cards are seated firmly in their sockets. If in case of laptops then check the hard drive and Ram just to ensure they are connected properly. Remove the panels in the back that cover the hard drive and RAM amd press the components firmly into their connections.
- Overheating: Overheating can lead to your hardware malfunctioning and leading to blue screen error. Graphics card and CPU gets heated the quickest.
Solution: You can check temperatures in most BIOS menus, or through software in Windows.
- Check the RAM: RAMam crash is one of the common reasons for blue screen error. It causes the system to become unstable.
Solution: Test the RAM by using a program called “memtest86”. This program is available for free online, and is run by burning it to a bootable CD. Then reboot your computer and run the program. The memtest software will automatically start tests on your computer’s RAM. This may take several minutes to complete. For best results, allow several passes of the test to be completed. Memtest will run indefinitely until you stop it yourself.
- Test the hard drive: Hard drive check is essential as it might have errors leading to Blue screen error.
Solution: Run the “chkdsk” function on the hard drive to scan for errors and fix potential problems
Steps to run chkdsk:
Open Computer/My Computer- right click the disk that needs to be scanned -Select Properties- Select Tools Tab -Click Check Now in the Error Checking section-Your computer will prompt you to restart in order to scan the disk.
- Keep only what is essential: Too mkuch of overload of windows can also lead to files to get corrupted and further have errors like blue screen error.
Solution: Strip your computer down to the essentials. One way to narrow down what is causing the problem is to remove everything that is not essential for the PC to run. This way, if the error goes away, you know that it was one of the pieces that you disconnected. A desktop computer needs the motherboard, CPU, a hard disk, power supply, RAM, and a keyboard. Plug your monitor into your motherboard’s monitor port (if it has one) so that you can disconnect the graphics card. Everything else can be removed during the diagnostic process. If the computer runs fine after stripping it down, add one part back at a time until the error message appears again. This will let you know which device is causing the computer to crash. This method does not apply to laptops, as you cannot strip it down.
